Colorado Springs And The Pikes Peak Region...What A Great Place To Live

Thinking of moving to our area? Don't wait any longer; it is one of the best places to live for so many reasons.

Lets talk about the weather, weather doesn’t get much better than around here due to the moderate average temperature, low average humidity and sunny days. When you consult the Western Regional Climate Center the average maximum temperature for the area is a mild 62.1 degrees, the average minimum temperature for the area is 35.5 degrees, average snowfall is 40.7 inches with an average precipitation of 16.10 inches. With the up and down temperatures the snow falls and stays for a day or week and melts away with bright sunny days. There is an average of 127 bright, clear sunny days.

This great weather offers an opportunity for a myriad of activities in an around the area. The area offers great hiking, biking, skiing a few hours away, horseback riding, camping, festivals and more.

If you didn’t know yet, I love to ride horses whether it is trails, driving or gymkhana activities. The area offers trails in the wide open plains and in the mountains. There is a great parks system with the state parks and county parks. Some of the El Paso County trails include Palmer-Divide Regional Trail, Rock Island Regional Trail, New Santa Fe Regional Trail which crosses part of the Air Force Academy, Ute Pass Trail, Fountain Creek Regional Trail, Paint Mines Regional Park in Calhan, Homestead Ranch Regional Park in Peyton, Black Forest Regional Park, Black Forest Section 16, Black Forest Regional Park, Fox Run Regional park, Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area in Palmer Lake and Monument, Crews Gulch Trail. Of course some of the local horse clubs include Kit Carson Riding Club and Black Forest Riding Club. Then of course there are 4-H horse groups for the kids, the El Paso County Fair events, even drill teams and more. It is a great area for horses in the areas of Black Forest, Falcon, Peyton, Calhan, Ellicott, Yoder, Rush, Simla, Ramah, Matheson, Fountain/Ft. Carson, Monument, Palmer Lake, Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base just to name a few.

The county also has a park where the dogs are the focus. Although the dogs are welcome on a leash at the other parks, the county created a Lovers of Off-Leash Park called Bear Creek Dog Park. There are also many nature centers and bike trails in the El Paso County Parks System.

One of the more famous local attractions in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak Region include the famed America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak. Of course the Manitou Springs Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak is open year-round, weather permitting. Pikes Peak is one of Colorado’s fourteeners. There are 53 or 54 fourteeners in the state of Colorado which are mountains taller than 14,000 feet. The dispute is between the fourteeners website and Colorado Mountain Club. When you climb 54 of these mountains you tell me if there were 53 or 54.

Other attractions include Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, Focus on the Family, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Ghost Town Museum, Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour, Royal Gorge Route Railroad, Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad, Cave of the Winds, Historic Manitou Springs, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Miramont Castle, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, United States Air Force Academy, North Pole/ Santa’s Workshop, Van Briggle Pottery, ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Flying W Ranch, The Broadmoor, Glen Eyrie Castle, Fine Arts Center, 3rd Cavalry Museum at Fort Carson, American Numismatic Museum, Dinosaur Depot Museum, Peterson Air Force Base Air and Space Museum, Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb Museum, Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum, El Pomar Carriage House Museum, U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame, Ute Pass Historical Society Museum, U.S. Olympic Training Center, The Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, and Western Museum of Mining and Industry to name a few.

Were you thinking of skiing and winter mountain activities? It is just a few hours away. Although there are the famous area such as Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail, Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Arapahoe Basin and some others at just a few hours away, many of the locals go to the less busy, less expensive Monarch Mountain or Ski Cooper for a day of skiing just a few hours away.

Of course our area is proud to be the home of Fort Carson Army Post, The Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, and Cheyenne AFS also known as NORAD (the place that in addition to its top secret work tracks Santa on Christmas Eve for all the children worldwide).

Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region is a great place to call home. Be sure to call Diana to help you find your home!
